Objective
Quinquenove is an exciting card game where the goal is to be the first player to reach a certain score. This score is determined by the combination of the values of the cards played.
Game Materials
- A special deck of cards with numbers from 1 to 15 in various colors (e.g., red, blue, green, yellow). Each color contains the numbers 1 through 15 once.
- A score board for keeping track of points.
Setup
- Shuffle the cards well and deal 7 cards to each player.
- The remaining cards form the draw pile, placed face down in the center of the table.
- The top card of the draw pile is turned over to start the discard pile.
- Determine the starting player by any agreeable method (e.g., the youngest player starts).
Gameplay
- Player's Turn: The player whose turn it is can place a card from their hand onto the discard pile. The card played must meet one of the following conditions:
- Same color as the top card of the discard pile.
-
Same value as the top card of the discard pile.
-
Drawing Cards: If the player cannot place a card, they must draw one from the draw pile. If they can play the drawn card, they may do so immediately.
-
Special Cards:
- 5 Card (Quinque): This card can be placed on any card regardless of its color or number. The player who plays a 5 card gets an extra turn.
-
9 Card (Nove): When played, the next player must either play another 9 card or draw two cards.
-
Scoring: The aim is to collect the highest score by playing cards. A round ends when a player has no cards left in their hand.
- End of Round and Scoring: The remaining cards in the other players' hands count as penalty points. The value on each remaining card counts as minus points for the player holding them.
End of Game
The game concludes when a player reaches a predetermined score (e.g., 100 points).
Strategy Tip: Always keep a 5 Card or a 9 Card in reserve, as these provide flexibility and control in the game. Try to play number combinations that make it harder for the following players.
