Objective
"The Kids of Catan" is a family game based on the famous "The Settlers of Catan". The aim is to collect resources and build roads to transport goods to the neighboring villages. The first kid or team to complete all their tasks wins the game.
Materials
- Game board: A simple network of roads between villages.
- Wooden dice: Used to determine the amount of available resources.
- Resource tiles: Wood, brick, wool, grain, ore – needed to build roads and buildings.
- House tiles: Indicate which goods need to be delivered to which village.
- Player pieces: Represent the children transporting goods.
Setup
- Each player chooses a piece and places it at the starting point.
- The resource tiles are shuffled and placed face down on the designated spots on the board.
- Each player draws a house tile, showing which goods they need to deliver.
Gameplay
The game is played in turns, with each player having the following options: 1. Collect resources: A player rolls the wooden dice to find out which resources are available this round. 2. Trade resources: Players can trade among themselves to acquire the necessary resources for their house tiles. 3. Build roads: Using collected resources, players can build roads to reach the villages. 4. Transport goods: Once a road is built, players can transport goods to the villages.
Special Rules
- Robber variant: If a player rolls a certain combination, the robber is activated, who can steal resources from players.
- Cooperation rule: Players can work together to overcome particularly difficult routes, especially if resources are scarce.
Strategic Tips
- Keep track of other players' resources to better plan when to trade.
- Aim to establish a road network early on to remain flexible.
- Utilize the cooperation mechanism, especially when dependent on certain resources.
End of the Game
The game ends when a player delivers all their goods. The player with the most fulfilled house tiles wins the game.
