Objective of the Game
Imhotep: Builder of Egypt is a board game where players take on the roles of master builders in ancient Egypt, striving to construct the most prestigious monuments. The objective is to earn the most victory points through strategic stone placement and planning, building structures like pyramids and temples.
Gameplay
Setup
- Game Board Setup: Place the boards for the 5 construction sites (Market, Pyramid, Temple, Burial Chamber, and Obelisk) in the center of the table.
- Ships: Three to four ships are available each round, depending on the number of players.
- Round Cards: Prepare the round cards, which represent the 6 rounds of the game.
- Stones: Each player receives stones of a specific color.
- Action Cards: Shuffle and prepare the decks of action cards.
- Starting Player: Determine the starting player, for example, by rolling a die or asking who last experienced a sandy encounter.
Round Phases
The game proceeds over six rounds, and each round consists of several phases: 1. Loading Ships: Players take turns placing stones from their supply onto a ship. 2. Sailing Ships: Instead of placing a stone, players may sail a loaded ship to a construction site. Ships can only be moved if they have the minimum required stones loaded. 3. Taking Action Cards: Special abilities can be activated by taking an action card. 4. Placing Stones: Stones are placed according to a specified order on the chosen sites from the landed ships.
Scoring
Scoring varies depending on the construction site: - Pyramid: Place stones in predefined patterns for immediate points. - Temple: Grants points at the end of each round. - Burial Chamber: Score points for connected groups of stones. - Obelisk: The tallest stack earns the most points.
Endgame Scoring
After the sixth round, final scoring takes place. Some structures only contribute points at this point.
Strategic Tips
- Timing: Knowing when to place stones on ships or when to move them to sites can be crucial.
- Watch Opponents: Pay attention to which constructions are valuable to your opponents to tactically influence ship movement.
- Use Action Cards Wisely: They provide significant advantages and should be integrated effectively into your strategy.
