Objective
Red Dog is a simple gambling card game where players bet on whether a certain card's value will be between two cards already dealt. The objective is to increase your bankroll through strategic betting.
Components
- A standard 52-card deck without Jokers.
- A table or surface for placing the cards.
- Chips or play money for placing bets.
Rules
-
Start: At the start of the game, the dealer receives a deck of cards. Each player places an initial bet.
-
Dealing cards:
- The dealer deals two cards face-up on the table.
-
Cards are ranked according to the standard order: Ace (high), King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 (low).
-
Determine the Spread:
-
The "Spread" is the number of card values numerically between the two dealt cards. Examples:
- (5,9): The Spread is 3 (cards 6, 7, 8).
- (King, 4): The Spread is 9 (cards 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen).
- (Queen, Queen): No spread, as both cards are the same.
-
Raise the Bet:
-
Players have the option to raise their bet (double) or “stay” with the original.
-
Draw the Third Card:
- The dealer draws a third card.
- Winning conditions:
- Win if the third card is within the spread. The payout depends on the spread:
- Spread of 1: pays 5:1
- Spread of 2: pays 4:1
- Spread of 3: pays 2:1
- Spread 4+: pays 1:1
- Lose if the third card is not within the spread.
- If the first two cards are a pair, a third card is drawn; if it's the same (three of a kind), a bonus payout of 11:1 is awarded.
Strategic Tips
- Know the Odds: With a low spread, the odds are poorer, so be cautious with large bets.
- Maximize Bets on Large Spreads: With a high spread (especially 4 or more), the probability of winning is very high.
- Avoid Distractions: Keep track of your bets as Red Dog is a fast-paced game.
End of the Game
The game can end when one player has won all the chips or at a predetermined stopping time.
