Objective of the Game
Stýrivolt is a strategy game where players aim to dominate key areas on the board by cleverly placing and moving their pieces. The goal is to have the majority influence over strategic points for the highest score.
Components
- A game board with an 8x8 grid.
- Each player has several game pieces in their chosen color (depending on the number of players).
- Scoring cards for tallying points.
- Action cards that allow special abilities or actions.
Setup
- Each player selects a color and takes the corresponding pieces.
- Shuffle the scoring cards and place them into a stack.
- Each player receives three action cards to begin the game.
- Decide who begins (e.g., by rolling a die).
Gameplay
The game is played in turns, with each turn consisting of the following phases:
- Action Phase:
- The active player can either place a new piece on the board or move an existing one.
-
Then, the player may choose to play an action card to perform special maneuvers.
-
Move Phase:
- Movement: Move one of your pieces one square in any direction.
-
Placement: Instead of moving, place a new piece from your reserve onto a free square.
-
Event Phase:
- Draw a scoring card for later scoring.
-
Possibly trigger an event that affects all players.
-
Scoring Phase:
-
At specific rounds or triggered by certain cards, an interim scoring occurs, awarding points based on control of key areas.
-
End Turn: The next player begins their action phase.
Special Rules
- Blockades: Multiple pieces can block a square, preventing opponents from entering or passing through.
- Action Cards: These offer special advantages like extra moves, removing opponent pieces, or changing board layout.
- Final Scoring: At the end of the game, a final tally is calculated using collected scoring cards.
Strategic Tips
- Plan ahead: Strategically place pieces to control multiple areas.
- Use blockades to secure positions or limit your opponent’s movement.
- Save powerful action cards for critical moments.
- Stay adaptable to counter opponent strategies.
The game ends when no more placements are possible, or a defined number of rounds is reached, after which final scoring determines the winner. The player with the most points wins.
