Objective of the Game

The Game of the Goose is a classic board game for two or more players. The main objective of the game is to be the first to reach the final space on the board, usually numbered 63.

Setup

  • Each player selects a game piece and places it on the starting space numbered 1.
  • The board consists of 63 numbered spaces arranged in a spiral track.

Gameplay

  • Turn Order: Players roll dice to determine the starting player. The player with the highest roll goes first.
  • Player's Turn: The active player rolls two six-sided dice and moves their piece forward by the total number of spaces shown on the dice.

Special Spaces

  • Goose Spaces (9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54): If a player lands on a goose space, they move forward the same number of spaces again.
  • Bridge (6, 12): Landing on the Bridge (space 6) allows the player to jump directly to space 12.
  • Inn (19): Players landing here must miss one turn.
  • Well (31): The player stays until another player lands here and frees them.
  • Maze (42): If reaching the Maze, move back to space 30.
  • Prison (52): The player remains trapped until another player lands on this space.
  • Death (58): Return to the start.

Winning Conditions

  • A player must reach the final space with an exact roll. If they roll too high, count backwards the remainder.

Strategy

  • The strategic depth in the Game of the Goose mainly comes from the special spaces. Be mindful of planning your moves to avoid unwanted setbacks.

The Game of the Goose is a fun, luck-based challenge without complicated rules, suitable for players of all ages.
