Objective of the Game
The goal of Kingdomino is to be the ruler of the most successful kingdom by the end of the game. This is achieved by strategically placing domino tiles with landscape pieces to create areas that score the highest points.
Game Components
- Domino Landscape Tiles: Each domino consists of two landscapes, such as forests, fields, pastures, mines, or waters.
- Kings: Each player chooses a color and receives a king marker to represent their position in the selection process.
- Starting Tile: Each kingdom begins with a central starting tile measuring a single square.
Setup
- Each player receives a starting tile and places it in front of them.
- The dominos are sorted by their value (the number on the back) and shuffled. For a four-player game, all are used; for fewer players, an appropriate number is used.
- Players randomly select their starting order and place their king markers accordingly.
Gameplay
The game is played over several rounds until no dominos remain. Each round follows these steps:
- Laying Out Dominos: A number of dominos equal to the number of players is drawn and lined up face up.
-
These are arranged in ascending order based on their number.
-
Choosing Dominos: Starting with the king in the lowest position from the previous round, players take turns choosing one domino.
-
Set New Domino Row: A new row of dominos is laid out as described in Step 1.
-
Add Dominos to Kingdom: Each player adds their chosen domino to their kingdom, ensuring at least one side matches an existing tile's landscape type.
- The complete kingdom can't exceed a 5x5 grid (expandable to 7x7 when playing with 2 players).
- If a player can't place a domino legally, it is discarded from play.
Scoring
At the end of the game, players score based on the size of connected landscape areas multiplied by the number of crowns within them. - Points Calculation: For each connected landscape, multiply the number of squares by the number of crowns. - The player with the highest total score wins.
Strategic Tips: - Focus on building large areas of the same landscape with as many crowns as possible. - Plan ahead to efficiently use the space in your kingdom. - Avoid adding "worthless" tiles that enlarge the grid without adding potential points.
