Törteln

Objective

The goal of Törteln is to accumulate as many points as possible over several rounds by strategically playing cards to gain the majority in various categories.

Setup

• Playing Cards: The game consists of a deck of cards. Each card belongs to one of several categories and has a specific point value.
• Number of Players: The game can be played with 2 to 6 players.
• Starting Setup: Each player receives a certain number of cards in their hand. The exact number depends on the number of players. Typically, the deck should be well shuffled, and each player should receive an equal number of cards.

Game Flow

1. Card Phase
2. Each player examines their cards and decides which cards they wish to play.

3. Players can play a fixed number of cards each round (for example, 3 cards), which they place face down in front of them.

4. Scoring Phase

5. Once all players have chosen and placed their cards face down, the cards are revealed.
6. The cards are sorted according to the different categories.
7. For each category, the player with the highest point total is determined. This player wins that category.

8. In the case of a tie in a category, no points are awarded for that category.

9. Scoring

10. Each player who has the highest point total in a category receives points multiplied by the number of cards played in that category.
11. The player with the most points after a pre-determined number of rounds wins the game.

Strategies and Tips

• Bluffing: Since cards are played face down, bluffing is an important strategic element in Törteln. You can try to deceive your opponents about your true intentions to make them waste their strong cards.
• Category Focus: It might be wise to concentrate on one or two categories instead of trying to win in every category. Look at your hand and decide where you have the best chance.
• Timing: Not every card needs to be played immediately. Manage your hand wisely to be better prepared for later rounds.

Special Features

• By design, not all cards may be used in a single game, which can lead to surprises as it's unclear which cards are in play.
• There may be additional rules, like "joker" cards that can be used in any category, or "sabotage" cards that reduce other players' points.
