Objective

Catan – Anniversary Edition is a special edition of the popular game "The Settlers of Catan." The objective is to skillfully settle, trade, and build to be the first player to reach 10 victory points. Points are gained through settlements, cities, and special cards such as the "Longest Road" and "Largest Army."

Setup

• Assemble the hexagonal game board consisting of various landscape tiles.
• Each player chooses a color and receives 5 settlements, 4 cities, and 15 roads in that color.
• Distribute the resource cards: wool, wood, brick, grain, and ore.
• Place the number tokens on the landscape tiles in the predetermined sequence.
• Each player places two settlements and two roads on the board at the start of the game.

Gameplay

1. Begin the round: The player whose turn it is rolls both dice.
2. Resource production: The sum of the dice determines which landscape tiles produce resources. All players with settlements adjacent to these tiles receive the corresponding resources.
3. Trading: After resource production, the active player can trade resources with other players.
4. Building: The player can now build roads, settlements, and cities, or buy development cards, provided they have the required resources.
5. Road: 1 wood + 1 brick
6. Settlement: 1 wood + 1 brick + 1 grain + 1 wool
7. City: 2 grain + 3 ore
8. Development card: 1 wool + 1 grain + 1 ore
9. Move the robber: If a 7 is rolled, the robber is activated. The player who rolled the 7 relocates the robber to a different landscape tile to block production there, and can steal a card from one of the players whose settlements border that tile.

Special Rules

• The "Longest Road" card is awarded to the first player to build a chain of at least 5 connected roads.
• The "Largest Army" is granted to the first player to play at least 3 knight cards.

Strategic Tips

• Secure a variety of resources: At the beginning, aim to build settlements on different landscape types to obtain a wide range of resources.
• Good trading network: Trade actively to get the resources you need.
• Place robbers strategically: Place the robber to block your opponents' access to essential resources.
• Use development cards: Development cards can provide surprise actions or situational advantages.

"Catan – Anniversary Edition" can be enjoyed by players of all ages, but it requires tactical thinking and strategic planning, especially with more than two players.
