Objective of the Game
Chess with Different Armies is a variant of the classic chess game. The objective is to checkmate the opponent's king, just like in regular chess, meaning placing it in a position where it cannot escape capture. However, each player commands an army of pieces with different abilities and movements, which adds extra strategic depth.
Setup
Similar to classic chess, each player has an 8x8 board. However, each player's army comprises pieces with different movement patterns. In "Chess with Different Armies," there are often pre-configured sets or the possibility to design custom armies.
The Pieces
Representative Piece Sets
- Classic Army - Standard chess pieces:
- King: Moves one square in any direction.
-
Queen: Moves any number of squares in any direction.
-
New Armies (Example):
- Monster: Can move like a knight or a bishop.
- Archer: Moves like a rook but can jump over squares.
Gameplay
As in traditional chess, the player controlling the white pieces begins the game. Each player takes turns moving one piece per turn, aiming to strategically advance and checkmate the opponent's king. Differently moving pieces require new tactics.
Strategic Considerations
- Knowledge of the Opponent's Army: It's crucial to understand the movement possibilities of all the pieces on the field and anticipate moves.
- Control the Center: As in classic chess, controlling the central squares can form a strong basis for attack.
- Synergy Effects: Some armies may have special interactions between pieces, which should be considered in the army strategy.
End of the Game
The game ends when one player's king is checkmated. It also ends in a draw if neither player can achieve their goal or a player cannot make a legal move without putting their king in check (stalemate).
