Objective of the Game:

In Luxor, players compete to reach the ultimate treasure at the end of a temple path. Along the way, they collect Egyptian artifacts and aim to earn points by strategically moving their adventurers. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Components:

  • Game board featuring a path through the temple
  • 31 artifact tiles
  • 6 treasure tiles
  • 20 adventurer figures (4 in 5 colors)
  • 1 Isis and 1 Osiris die
  • 65 cards
  • 4 player tableaux
  • 1 burial chamber
  • Pharaoh coins

Setup:

  1. Place the game board in the center.
  2. Randomly distribute the artifact tiles on their corresponding places.
  3. Each player receives a tableau, four adventurers in their color, and 5 cards.
  4. Players place their adventurers on the starting fields.
  5. The treasure chamber at the path's end is set with treasure tiles.

Gameplay:

The game is played in turns, going clockwise, with each player performing the following actions on their turn:

  1. Play a card: Each player has five cards in hand. They can play either the leftmost or rightmost card to determine their move. After playing, the player draws a new card and places it in the middle of their hand.

  2. Move an adventurer: The played card indicates how many spaces one of the five active adventurers is moved. Movement is always forward.

  3. Collect artifacts: If an adventurer lands on a tile showing an artifact, and there are enough adventurers on the tile as indicated, the player can collect that artifact.

  4. Utilize action cards: Some spaces allow special actions or offer specific cards granting items or bonuses.

  5. Collect Pharaoh coins: By landing on spaces with coins, players gather points.

  6. Secure treasures: At the path's end, there's a main treasure that players reach with exact moves with at least two adventurers to score points.

Winning the Game:

The game concludes when either two players reach the main treasure at the path's end or all cards are depleted. Points are calculated from collected artifacts, Pharaoh coins, and the positioning of adventurers in the burial chamber.

Tips for Strategic Play:

  • Card Management: Knowing when and which card to play is crucial. With a static hand, estimating future turns is vital.
  • Adventurer Distribution: It's wise to spread adventurers evenly to effectively gather artifacts and maximize potential points.
  • Treasure Planning: Resist sprinting directly to the treasure. Plan maneuvers that force opponents to waste their best moves.
