King of Tokyo: Objective of the Game
In King of Tokyo, you play as a monster battling for control of Tokyo. Your goal is to either reach 20 points or eliminate all other monsters.
Setup
- Each player selects a monster and takes the corresponding monster marker and scoreboard.
- Place the Tokyo Tower in the center of the table.
- Arrange the energy cubes for easy reach.
- Shuffle the deck of cards and place the first three cards face-up as a shop display.
- Each player starts with 0 victory points and 10 health points.
Gameplay
A turn consists of the following phases:
-
Rolling Dice: The active player rolls six dice. They may re-roll any number of dice up to two more times.
-
Dice Resolution:
- 1, 2, 3: If you roll three of the same number, you score that many points.
- Heart: Heals your monster for one point (this does not work in Tokyo).
- Lightning Bolt: Earns energy, which can be spent to purchase cards from the shop display.
-
Claws: Deal damage to other monsters. Inside Tokyo, it hits all other monsters; outside Tokyo, it hits the monster within Tokyo.
-
Positioning: After an attack, a player outside Tokyo must decide whether to enter Tokyo if they inflicted damage.
-
Buying Cards: Purchase card effects for gathered energy that grant special advantages or points.
Key Points
- Holding Tokyo: The monster in Tokyo gains 2 points at the start of their turn. Since they cannot heal with hearts, strategic decisions must be made about when to leave Tokyo.
- End of the Game: The game ends immediately once someone reaches 20 points or is the last monster standing.
Strategic Tips
- Attack and Defense: Position in Tokyo is crucial for an "attack and endure" strategy. Be prepared to either play aggressively or prioritize survival.
- Card Effects: Use cards strategically to have a lasting impact on the game or to seize short-term advantages.
Enjoy battling for supremacy in Tokyo!
