Objective of the Game
The game "Rechnen" (Calculating) aims to solve mathematical problems and collect as many points as possible. It revolves around knowledge and quick handling of numbers.
Game Components
- A set of number cards
- A set of cards with mathematical operations (+, -, ×, ÷)
- Scoreboard or paper and pencil for recording results
Setup
- Shuffle the number cards and the operation cards and place them in two separate face-down decks in the middle of the table.
- Each player draws two number cards and one operation card, placing them face-up in front of themselves.
- Decide on how many rounds to play. Generally, it's 5 to 10 rounds.
Gameplay
- In each round, every player draws an additional number card and adds it face-up to their cards.
- Each player now combines their number cards with the operation card to create and solve a math problem. For example: If a player has number cards 4, 5, and an operation card +, they create the equation 4 + 5 = 9.
- The player records the result. Depending on the agreement, points are awarded for correctly solved problems.
- Then, each player draws a new operation card, while the number cards are retained.
- If all operation cards are used, they are reshuffled and brought back into play.
End of the Game
- The game ends after the predetermined number of rounds.
- The player with the most points wins.
Strategic Tips
- Make sure to combine your number cards to achieve the highest possible results consistently.
- Especially with multiplication and division, try to use high numbers to achieve higher results and score more points.
- Consider when it might be strategic to use lower cards in addition or subtraction to preserve the availability of your high cards for later rounds.
The game Rechnen is excellent for improving mathematical understanding and providing exciting contests by encouraging players to demonstrate their math skills.
