Objective

In Tournay, players take on the role of leading families aiming to rebuild the city of Tournay after its destruction. The goal is to gather points through smart planning and resource management, achieved by constructing buildings, deploying characters, and utilizing event cards.

Game Components

  • Cards are divided into three categories: Buildings, Citizens, and Nobles
  • Cards come in three different colors: Yellow, Red, and Blue, each offering different types of benefits
  • Coins
  • Meeples in three colors (Red, Yellow, Blue)
  • Event Cards

Setup

  1. Each player receives a set of meeples (one citizen of each color: Red, Yellow, Blue) and starting resources.
  2. The cards are shuffled and divided into three separate decks according to their category and color.
  3. Each player has a player board with space for a 3x3 grid of completed cards.

Gameplay

Tournay is played over several rounds. On their turn, players can choose from several actions:

  1. Draw Cards: Draw 1, 2, or 3 cards from any of the decks. Each card drawn requires a meeple of the corresponding color to retire.
  2. Strategy Tip: Drawing multiple cards from one deck increases your chance of obtaining a synergistic combination for future actions.

  3. Activate Card Effect: Play a card from your hand and utilize its effect.

  4. Note: Some cards provide immediate benefits, while others are better considered as long-term investments.

  5. Construct a Building: Use cards from your hand to build buildings on your player board. They have specific costs and effects.

  6. Recall Meeples: Retrieve all retired meeples to reuse them in future turns.

  7. Collect Taxes: Gain coins based on your current setup and the arrangement of your city.

Special Features

  • Events: Event cards impact the game with positive or negative effects for all players.
  • Key Strategies: Efficient use of citizens and buildings can create powerful combos. Focus on developing a working strategy when choosing and placing cards in your grid.
  • Endgame: The game ends when a certain number of buildings are erected and/or a certain number of events occur, depending on the number of players.

Scoring

At the end of the game, players count the victory points gained from buildings, active effects, and specific cards. The player with the most points wins.
