Objective of the Game
The objective of Tausendundeins is to be the first player to reach exactly 1001 points. This is achieved over multiple rounds by playing cards and accruing points.
Materials Required
- A standard 52-card deck without Jokers
- A means of keeping score for each player
Number of Players
- The game can be played with 2 to 8 players.
Setup
- Shuffle the deck thoroughly.
- Determine the first dealer by having each player draw a card; the highest card becomes the dealer.
- Each player receives 5 cards.
- The remaining cards form a draw pile, placed face down in the center.
- Turn the top card of the draw pile face up to start a discard pile.
Gameplay
Play proceeds in a clockwise direction.
Player Turn Actions

The player either draws the top card from the draw pile or the top card from the discard pile.

The player must then discard one card from their hand onto the discard pile.

Scoring Points:
- Accumulate points based on the cards collected.
- Aim to reach exactly 1001 points. If players surpass this total, they may attempt to outbid other players accumulating equivalent or higher values to adjust their scores downward.
Card Points Value
- Ace = 11 points
- King = 4 points
- Queen = 3 points
- Jack = 2 points
- 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 = face value
End of a Round
- A player wins the game upon reaching exactly 1001 points.
- If a player surpasses 1001 points, their score is reset to 500.
Strategic Tips
- Card Counting: Keep track of the cards that have been played to better estimate which cards your opponents may hold.
- Risk Management: Manage your points carefully; it may be advantageous to play more defensively to avoid going over 1001 points.
