Objective
The goal of Vierblatt is to be the first to discard all your cards by forming card combinations. These combinations follow specific rules and give players points, while unplayed cards result in penalty points.
Materials
- A deck of 52 cards in four suits (Hearts, Diamonds, Spades, Clubs).
- A score sheet to record results.
Players
The game can be played by 3 to 6 players.
Setup
- Shuffle the cards and deal an equal number of cards to each player (depending on the number of players).
- Place the remaining cards in a stack in the center of the table.
- Determine a starting player (by rolling dice or randomly).
Gameplay
Each player tries to play card combinations. Possible combinations are:
- Pairs: Two identical cards (e.g., two Kings).
- Three of a kind: Three identical cards.
- Four of a kind: Four identical cards (particularly valuable).
- Sequences (Straights): A consecutive sequence of cards in the same suit.
Turn Phase
- Playing cards: The player lays down at least one combination on the table.
- Drawing cards: If a player cannot play a combination, they must draw a card from the stack.
- Next player: The player to the left then takes their turn.
Rules and Specifics
- Extending combinations: Players may also add cards to existing combinations on the table.
- Scoring: Each game lasts until one player has no more cards. At the end of a game, all remaining cards are penalty points, removed based on their value (Ace = 1 point, face cards = 10 points, number cards according to their number).
- Round Winner: The player with the fewest penalty points wins the round.
Strategy Tips
- Hand Management: Consider carefully when to play which card combination to maximize points.
- Card Counting: Keep track of which cards have already been played and which might still be in play.
- Aggressive Adding: Regularly try to extend existing combinations to quickly empty your hand and reduce the risk of penalty points.
Game End
The game ends after an agreed number of rounds or time. Players count their penalty points, and the player with the least penalty points wins the entire game.
