Objective of "First Contact"
In "First Contact," players assume the roles of humans and aliens, trying to communicate with each other to identify certain objects. The objective for the humans is to decipher the alien symbols' meanings and deliver the requested objects to the aliens. The aliens aim to successfully guide the humans in choosing the correct objects without directly speaking.
Setup
- A player board is placed in the center, featuring a side with objects and a side with symbols.
- Each player receives a role — either human or alien.
- Alien players get a secret list with the meanings of their symbols.
- Human players receive cards with objects they want to gift to the aliens.
- A reference sheet with symbols is available for all players to view.
Gameplay
- Round Start: Each round, every human player draws an object card.
- Communication: Alien players use their symbols to communicate, hinting to human players about which object is the correct choice.
- Guessing the Meanings:
- Human players choose a meaning and associate it with the symbols they see.
- They attempt to gift the correct object to the alien players by deciphering the symbols.
- Submission and Verification:
- Each human player places the object they believe matches the symbol on the playing area.
- Aliens confirm or deny if the correct object was chosen.
- Scoring: Both the human player and the alien player earn points if the submission was correct.
End of the Game
The game ends when a human has correctly interpreted all symbols or when the object deck is exhausted. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.
Strategy Tips
- Aliens should provide consistent clues across rounds to help humans logically deduce meanings.
- Humans should take notes to better understand the symbols throughout the game.
