Sherwood Forest - Game Instructions

Objective of the Game:

In Sherwood Forest, players take on the roles of bandits competing to collect the most gold. The goal is to end the game with the most gold by setting cunning ambushes, raiding caravans, and defending your loot from other players.

Game Components:

  • A game board with various caravan routes.
  • Player figures.
  • Gold coins (of various values).
  • Action cards.
  • Event cards.
  • Caravan markers.

Setup:

  1. Place the game board in the center of the table.
  2. Each player selects a figure and places it on the starting space.
  3. Distribute gold coins evenly to each player.
  4. Shuffle the action and event cards and place them face down in decks.
  5. Randomly place the caravan markers on the specified spaces on the board.

Gameplay:

Sherwood Forest is played in rounds. Each round consists of several phases:

  1. Planning Phase:
  2. Each player draws action cards into their hand (usually 3 cards) and reviews them.
  3. Players then place cards face down in front of them that they want to use in this round.

  4. Execution Phase:

  5. Players simultaneously reveal their action cards and perform the described actions. Actions can include moving bandits, hiding gold, or purchasing equipment.

  6. Raid Phase:

  7. In this phase, players can decide to attack a caravan. To succeed, they must overpower the caravan’s strength with their own forces and possibly additional action cards.
  8. A successful raid yields gold, which is divided among the involved raiders.

  9. Event Phase:

  10. Draw an event card and follow its instructions. These cards can affect the weather, distribute bonuses or penalties, or have other random effects.

  11. End of Round:

  12. At the end of each round, players draw new cards, move caravans further along their paths, and prepare for the next round.

Game End:

The game ends after a predetermined number of rounds or when a certain amount of gold has been distributed. The player with the most gold at the end of the game wins.

Strategic Tips:

  • Collaboration: Sometimes it might be beneficial to collaborate with other players to raid particularly strong caravans. However, make sure your reward is not too small.
  • Bluffing: Use action cards strategically to mislead opponents and conceal your true target.
  • Timing: Maintain the right balance between attack and defense and wait for the right moment to capture a lot of coins.

Enjoy your adventures in Sherwood Forest!
