Objective of the Game
Eckdame is a strategic board game where the main goal is to capture or block the opponent's queen, preventing them from making any further moves.
Game Materials
- A square board with a 10x10 grid.
- Each player has a "queen" (a distinguished game piece differing in design from regular play).
Setup
- Each player chooses a color and places their queen on one of the opposing corner squares on the board.
- The player who moves first is determined by agreement or a random draw.
Basic Rules
Movement of the Queen
- The queen can move horizontally, vertically, or diagonally from its stand.
- It can move any number of squares, as long as they are unoccupied.
- There is no possibility to jump over or pass through other pieces.
Capturing
- If the queen is in a position to directly run towards an opponent's piece (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally), it can capture the piece by moving to the square occupied by the opponent.
Winning Conditions
- A player wins by capturing the opponent's queen.
- Alternatively, a player can win by blocking the opponent's queen so that no moves are possible.
Strategic Considerations
- Positioning: Good positioning of the queen can significantly restrict the opponent's movement options.
- Blocking: Ensure enough pieces are positioned along the edges to gain maneuverability.
- Defensive Moves: Sometimes the situation requires players to play defensively to provoke the opponent into making a mistake.
Special Rules
- In a variant of the game, a queen completing a full round around the board may receive an extra move as a reward.
