Objective of the Game
In "The Star of Africa", the goal is to be the first to find the Star of Africa, a precious diamond, and safely bring it back to Cairo or Tangier. The game unfolds on a board representing the African continent and requires both planning and a bit of luck.
Game Components
- A game board with cities and paths across Africa
- Playing figures for each player
- A set of game cards
- Dice
- Treasure tiles
Setup
- Each player selects a playing figure and places it on either Cairo or Tangier.
- The treasure tiles are shuffled face down and placed on marked locations on the board.
- Each player draws a card from the draw pile.
Gameplay
- Players take turns rolling the dice and moving their figures along the paths between cities according to the rolled number.
- Landing on a space with a face-down treasure tile allows the player to reveal it. If something valuable is found, the player might keep it.
- The Star of Africa is hidden among these tiles. Once found, it must be brought back to Cairo or Tangier to win the game.
- Players may meet each other on the board and, when on the same spot, they can block opposing figures.
Special Rules and Strategies
- Using Cards: The cards drawn may offer special events or movement opportunities. If used wisely, they can advance players faster or lay obstacles for others.
- Dealing with Encounters: Another player can be blocked or strategically stopped, especially if they're carrying the Star.
- Choosing Routes: There are various routes between the northern and southern parts of Africa. Carefully select your pathways both for treasure collection and to evade rivals.
End of the Game
The game ends once a player successfully brings the Star of Africa to Cairo or Tangier, and that player is deemed the winner.
