Objective
The objective of Sollo is to score the highest number of points by collecting sets of cards through strategic play. Players attempt to develop strategies that will allow them to end the game with the highest score.
Setup
- The game requires a deck of 52 playing cards (standard poker deck without jokers).
- 2 to 4 players can participate.
- Shuffle the deck thoroughly and deal 5 cards to each player.
- Place the remaining deck face-down in the center as a draw pile.
Gameplay
- Starting the Round: The player to the left of the dealer goes first.
- Drawing a Card: Each player begins their turn by drawing a card from the draw pile.
- Laying Down Cards: After drawing, players can lay down card combinations of at least three cards. These can be of two types:
- Sets: Multiple cards of the same rank but different suits.
- Sequences: Cards in consecutive order of the same suit (at least three consecutive cards).
- Discarding a Card: At the end of their turn, players must discard one card face-up onto the discard pile.
Special Cards
- 2 Cards: These can substitute for any card in a combination but cannot be used for two cards at once in a combination.
- Ace: Can be used as the highest or lowest card in a sequence.
Scoring
- When the game ends, either when the draw pile is exhausted or a player has no more cards, scores are calculated:
- Sets and sequences earn the player points based on the values:
- Cards 2 to 10 = face value
- Face cards (J, Q, K) = 10 points
- Ace = 15 points
- Cards not played count as negative points equal to their face values.
Tips & Strategies
- Keep key cards like 2s and Aces in mind as they can be flexibly used.
- Attempt to block opponents by carefully discarding cards that may prevent them from completing more sets or sequences.
- Plan ahead and track your opponents' progress to better guess which cards they might be collecting.
Enjoy your game!
