Objective of the Game
Thai Draughts is a strategy game for two players. The objective is to capture all of your opponent's pieces or block them from making any moves.
Game Components
- A game board with 8x8 squares (similar to a chessboard).
- Each player has 12 pieces in their color (commonly black and white or red and white).
Setup
- At the beginning of the game, arrange the board so that each player has a white corner square at their bottom right.
- Each player places their 12 pieces on the first three rows of dark squares on their side of the board.
Rules
- Movement Options:
- Pieces move diagonally forward on the dark squares one square at a time.
-
If an opponent’s piece is directly diagonal in front and there is an empty square behind it, you must jump over and capture it. The captured piece is then removed from the board.
-
Capturing:
- If a piece can jump over an opponent, this capture is mandatory.
-
Multi-capture is possible if, after capturing one piece, another opponent piece presents a similar opportunity.
-
Kings:
- When a piece reaches the opposite end of the board, it is crowned to become a King.
-
Kings can move diagonally forward and backward over any number of squares and can also jump over opponent pieces.
-
Winning:
- A player wins by capturing all opponent pieces or by placing the opponent in a position where no legal moves can be made.
Strategic Tips
- Try to keep your pieces close together for mutual protection.
- Advance pieces to become Kings as quickly as possible, as they provide additional flexibility and power.
- Carefully consider each move and anticipate your opponent’s potential replies.
