Objective of the Game

The aim of the game Pass the Trash is to have the lowest score over several rounds. It combines luck and strategy, with players trying to pass undesirable cards to their opponents.

Game Components

• A deck of 52 playing cards without jokers.
• 3 to 8 players can participate.
• Ideally, poker chips or coins are used as score counters.

Setup

1. Shuffle the cards thoroughly.
2. Each player is dealt four cards. The players' hands remain secret.
3. Place the remaining deck face-down in the center.

Gameplay

Each round includes the following phases:

1. Passing Cards

• At the beginning of each round, each player selects a card from their hand and passes it face-down to the player on their left.
• After players have passed their cards, they add the received card to their hand.
• This process is repeated three times, so that each player ends up with four cards again.

2. Reveal and Exchange

• The starting player (the player to the left of the dealer) begins the round.
• Each player, in turn, lays one card of their choice face-up in a new pile in the middle of the table.
• Afterward, each player draws a card from the face-down deck into their hand.

3. Scoring

• After all players have played a round, the players count the points on their hand cards. Each card is worth its face value: Ace through 10 count as their face value, Jack is worth 11, Queen 12, King 13.
• Exception: Hearts count double, all Kings are worth 50 points.

End of Round and Scoring

• The players count their points and record them. The goal is to keep the score as low as possible.
• Once the predetermined number of rounds (e.g., 10) is completed, all scores are added up. The player with the fewest points wins.

Strategic Tips

• Focus on Low Cards: Always try to keep the lowest possible cards in hand.
• Avoid Kings: Try to get rid of high cards, especially Kings, as quickly as possible.
• Observe Opponents: Try to understand the preferences and strategies of your opponents to pass them the most unfavorable cards.

Special Rules

• If the face-down deck runs out, the round ends immediately and the hand cards are scored.
• In the event of a tie after the set number of rounds, an additional round can be played.
