Objective of the Game
Poque, also known as Lanterloo, is a historical card game that is a precursor to modern Poker. The objective is to use strategic bidding and card selection to form the highest card value combination and win the pot from fellow players.
Number of Players
The game is typically played with 3 to 6 players.
Game Materials
- A standard 52-card deck without jokers.
- Pen and paper to keep track of scores and bets.
Game Flow
1. Dealing the Cards
- One player is designated the Dealer, responsible for dealing the cards and handling the bets.
- The dealer shuffles the deck and deals 5 cards face down to each player.
2. Placing Bets
- Every player must place an ante into the pot before the game begins.
3. First Betting Round
- Starting with the player to the left of the dealer, each player decides whether to bet, call, or fold.
- Bet: Place a certain amount into the pot.
- Call: Match the highest current bet to stay in the round.
- Fold: Withdraw from the hand by discarding your cards.
- This round continues until all players have either matched bets or folded.
4. Card Exchange
- Players may choose to exchange up to three cards for new ones from the deck.
5. Second Betting Round
- Another round of betting occurs, using the same options: bet, call, or fold.
6. Showdown

- The player with the highest hand wins the pot. The hand rankings are similar to poker: High Card, One Pair, Two Pair, Three of a Kind, Straight, Flush, Full House, Four of a Kind, Straight Flush.
7. Scoring
- The winner collects the entire pot.
- A new dealer is chosen, and the game begins anew.
