Objective of the Game

The Mind is a cooperative card game where players aim to place cards in ascending order as a team without communicating or making mistakes in order. Your success highly depends on your ability to assess and intuitively collaborate as a team.

Components

  • 100 cards numbered from 1 to 100.
  • A number of life markers and throwing stars based on the number of players.

Setup

  1. Determine the number of levels you need to reach depending on the number of players. For 2 players, it's 12 levels; for 3 players, 10 levels, and for 4 players, 8 levels.
  2. Distribute the appropriate number of life and throwing star markers. Each player starts with a certain number of lives (between 1 and 4 depending on the player count) and throwing stars.
  3. Shuffle the cards and place them as a draw pile in the center of the table.

Gameplay

The game progresses through several levels: - Starting at level 1, players are dealt as many cards as the current level (e.g., 1 card in level 1, 2 cards in level 2, etc.).

Round Procedure: 1. Each player looks at their hand and tries to place them in ascending order. 2. The challenge is that players do not know what cards the others have, as communication is not allowed. Players rely on intuition and synchronous teamwork. 3. The game can be paused by someone raising a hand to indicate a high risk of error, allowing the team to collectively decide on using a throwing star. If a throwing star is used, each player reveals their lowest card.

Card Placement: - A player places a card if they think it is the lowest. - If a card is placed and a lower card remains in another player's hand, a life is lost, and play continues by placing the lower card. Otherwise, the placement is considered a success.

Completing Levels: - If the team successfully places all cards without ordering errors up to the final level, they win the game. - The game ends in a loss if all lives are depleted.

Special Notes

  • The throwing stars are strategically important. Use them to stabilize game progress, especially when time is tight or when the remaining lives are few.
  • Over time, develop a shared sense of pacing and timing for card placement.
