Objective of the Game
The goal of Coloretto is to score the most points by collecting color cards. Players should aim to collect as many cards in their preferred color as possible, as penalties occur for collecting too many different colors.
Game Components
The game consists of 90 color cards in several colors.
Gameplay
-
Setup: Shuffle all color cards and form a face-down draw pile.
-
Turn Sequence:
- Draw: The active player can draw a card from the deck and place it openly on the table. Depending on the rules (e.g., collection limit of three cards per set), you place the card in one of the existing rows or start a new row.
-
Collect: The active player can choose instead of drawing to take one of the rows. However, a row must not exceed three cards.
-
Scoring:
- At the end of the game, only the three most collected colors score positively (the more cards of one color, the higher the point value).
-
All additionally collected colors count negatively against your score.
-
Ending the Game: The game ends when the draw pile is exhausted and all players have taken a row. Count the points of each color according to their number. The player with the highest score wins.
Strategy Tips
- Color Prioritization: Focus early in the game on a few different colors to build your main collections.
- Watch the Rows: Keep an eye on other players’ rows to make crucial moves before they get strategically important cards.
- Stay Flexible: Sometimes it can be beneficial to take an unwanted card to prevent opponents from obtaining more valuable cards, especially if they could easily lead to a point dominance.
Coloretto is a tactical and easy-to-learn card game that captivates with its color variety and the decisions players make during the game.
