Objective
Shipwrecked in the Lifeboat is a board game where the objective is to be one of the survivors on an overcrowded lifeboat finding refuge on a deserted island. Players must work together to prevent the boat from sinking while managing limited resources and making game-changing decisions.
Components
- 1 Game board depicting the lifeboat and surrounding sea.
- Player tokens representing the survivors.
- Resource markers for food, water, and other critical survival resources.
- Event cards that are drawn randomly and depict various scenarios.
Setup
- Place the game board in the center of the table.
- Each player chooses a token and places it on the lifeboat.
- Resource markers are placed on their starting positions on the board.
- Shuffle the event cards and form a face-down deck.
Gameplay
The game proceeds in rounds, with each round consisting of several phases:
-
Event Phase: Each player draws an event card and reads it aloud. These cards can be positive events, such as finding food, or negative events like storms.
-
Action Phase: Each player has the opportunity to perform actions such as reallocating resources, rescuing players, repairing the boat, or sending a distress signal. Note that some actions affect the condition of the boat.
-
Weather Phase: A dice roll determines the weather (calm or stormy), which can further impact gameplay.
-
Supply Phase: Resources are distributed among the players. Careful consideration of how the scarce supplies are divided is necessary to ensure everyone's survival.
-
Check Phase: At the end of each round, the condition of the boat is checked. Poor condition can lead to leaks and the threat of sinking. Good teamwork and prioritization are especially needed here.
End of the Game
The game ends when one of the following conditions is met:
- Rescue: The survivors reach an island or are rescued by drawing the corresponding event card or by sending a successful distress signal.
- Capitulation: The lifeboat sinks or the resources are depleted to the point where the survivors can no longer endure.
Strategic Tips
- Cooperation is key: Given the limited resources, effective communication and teamwork between players are imperative.
- Resource management: Prioritize collecting and protecting resources to ensure longer survival.
- Risk assessment: Sometimes taking risks is necessary to achieve greater benefits or progress.
The game requires strategic thinking and team spirit, making it particularly exciting for groups who enjoy taking on collective challenges.
