The Thief of Baghdad: Game Rules
Objective of the Game:
In "The Thief of Baghdad," you take on the role of a cunning thief navigating the streets of Baghdad to steal the most valuable treasure. The aim is to be the first to collect a certain number of treasures or capture the most valuable treasure to win the game.
Game Components
- Game Board: The board represents the city of Baghdad, with various areas offering different challenges and rewards.
- Game Pieces: Each player receives a game piece representing their thief.
- Treasure Cards: These cards determine which treasures are available for stealing and their rewards.
- Action Cards: These cards allow players to perform special actions, like moving other thieves or complicating their plans.
- Dice: Used for movement on the game board and some random chances.
- Treasure Tokens: Mark positions on the board where treasures can be seized.
Setup
- Place the board in the center of the table and position the treasure tokens on the designated spots.
- Each player chooses a game piece and places it on the starting space.
- Shuffle the treasure cards and draw four face-up next to the board; these are the current treasures available.
- Shuffle the action cards and deal three face down to each player.
- The player who last watched a movie about Baghdad starts the game.
Gameplay
- The game is played in rounds. Each player follows these phases in their turn:
1. Movement Phase
- Roll the dice and move your game piece the corresponding number of spaces. You can move in any direction except diagonally.
2. Collection Phase
- If you land on a space with a treasure token, you can attempt to steal that treasure. Draw a treasure card and check if you meet the requirements to steal it.
3. Action Phase
- Optionally play an action card from your hand to disrupt other players' plans or increase your advantage.
4. End of Turn
- Draw a new action card so you always have three cards in your hand.
Winning
- The game ends once a player collects the set number of treasures or captures the most valuable treasure worth 3 victory points and safely returns it to their hideout.
- The player with the most victory points at the end wins the game.
Tips
- Plan Strategy: Use action cards wisely to hinder opponents and pave the way for yourself.
- Expect Randomness: Be prepared for unforeseen moves due to dice rolls and action cards.
- Timing Attacks: Wait for the right moment to move your piece into dangerous territories or confront other players.
- Bluff with Cards: You don’t always need high-value cards; sometimes bluffing can divert others from your plans.
Enjoy the heist and escape in "The Thief of Baghdad"!
