Objective of the Game

The goal of King of New York is to become the most powerful monster in New York by either being the first to collect 20 Victory Points or being the last monster standing after eliminating all others.

Game Components

  • 1 Game Board, representing New York City, divided into five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, and Staten Island.
  • 66 Cards providing special abilities and bonuses.
  • 6 Monster Figures, each with a corresponding board and custom dice.
  • 8 Custom Dice.
  • Energy, Destruction, and Reward Tokens.
  • City Tiles.

Setup

  1. Each player chooses a monster and receives:
  2. The matching Monster Board.
  3. A Monster Figure.
  4. Health (starts at 10) and Victory Point counters (starts at 0).
  5. Shuffle the cards and place them as a face-down draw pile.
  6. Place the game board in the center and position the figures in the boroughs (all outside of Manhattan).
  7. Place energy tokens and tokens within reach.
  8. Lay out the first 3 cards from the deck as a face-up marketplace.

Game Play

The game proceeds in rounds with each player taking their turn in the following order:

1. Roll Dice

  • Roll all six Custom Dice (two extra dice serve as backup).
  • You may reroll any of these dice up to two times to achieve optimal results.
  • Consider dice symbols:
  • Numbers (1, 2, 3): Ignore these in King of New York.
  • Claws (Attack): Inflict damage to other monsters, depending on your position (inside or outside Manhattan).
  • Hearts (Heal): Heal your monster by 1 hit point per heart symbol but only outside Manhattan.
  • Lightning (Energy): Take the amount of energy tokens equal to the number of lightning symbols rolled.
  • Destruction Symbol (Destruction): Allows you to destroy buildings in your borough.

2. Resolve Dice

  • Distribute damage with claw symbols to other monsters.
  • Collect energy to your total.
  • If you rolled destruction symbols, destroy buildings in your borough. Destructions awards energy, health, or victory points, depending on building types (military units may cause damage!).

3. Move (optional)

  • You may choose to move into an adjacent borough if you’re outside Manhattan.
  • Outside Manhattan: Place city tiles if you end up staying in a damage-free borough.

4. Buy Cards

  • Use your energy tokens to purchase cards from the marketplace.
  • Cards provide permanent or single-use benefits to enhance your monster.

5. End Turn

  • The turn ends if no player meets the win conditions.

Special Rules in Manhattan

  • A monster in Manhattan cannot heal.
  • The monster in Manhattan gains additional victory points and/or energy at the start of its turn (depending on position within Manhattan: Lower, Midtown, Upper).
  • If a monster in Manhattan is hit (damaged), they may choose to leave, making room for the next monster.

Winning Conditions

  • Reach 20 Victory Points
  • Be the last standing monster in play

Strategic Tips: - Carefully decide when and how to occupy or leave Manhattan, as it’s risky but rewarding. - Utilize cards effectively for lasting advantages. Some bonuses grant additional destruction power, healing, or attack. - Monitor your opponents' health status and plan strategic attacks accordingly.

"King of New York" combines strategy with a touch of luck through dice rolling, offering exciting gameplay at every turn. Enjoy playing!
