Objective

The objective of Quadräteln is to score the most points by strategically placing shapes on a game board. Players must plan ahead to make room for future moves while also blocking their opponents.

Game Components

  • A square game board divided into smaller squares, typically laid out in a 10x10 grid.
  • Shape tiles that come in different, often Tetris-like forms.
  • A score tracker or scoring board.

Setup

  1. Place the game board in the center of the table.
  2. Each player receives an equal number of shape tiles.
  3. Players can decide to draw their shapes or lay them face-up in front of them.

Gameplay

  • Rounds: The game progresses in rounds. Each player takes one turn per round.
  • Turn: When it is a player's turn, they must place one of their shapes on the game board. The following rules apply:
  • The shape must not extend outside the board boundaries.
  • The shape must not overlap any other shape.

  • If a player cannot place any shape, their turn ends.

Scoring

  • Points are awarded for each shape placed, with the amount based on the size and complexity of the shape.
  • Bonus points are awarded for completely filling a row or column.
  • The game ends when no player can place another shape.

Special Features and Strategies

  • Planning: Consider beforehand where future shapes could be placed.
  • Blocking: Try to block opponents by taking key areas on the board.
  • Stay Flexible: Keep options open and ensure not to get boxed in too early.

End of the Game

The game concludes when no player can place a shape or all shapes have been used. The player with the most points wins.

Quadräteln combines strategic thought with spatial awareness, offering excitement for both casual players and board game enthusiasts.
