Objective of the Game
The objective of To 101 is to reach exactly 101 points by clever announcements and strategic card plays, or to come as close as possible to 101 without exceeding.
Number of Players
The game can be played with four or more players.
Setup
- Shuffle the deck of cards and distribute an equal number of cards to each player, until all cards are dealt. Some players may have one card more if the cards don't divide equally.
- Each player picks up their hand and looks at their cards.
Gameplay
- Players agree on a starting player. In each round, the starting player announces a score that determines the value of their first laying move.
- Other players must take turns laying down cards to reach closer to 101. The total value must not significantly exceed 101.
- Play proceeds clockwise around the table.
- The value of a card play is determined by the stated values of the cards. Jack, Queen, King count as 10 points, Ace as 1 point, and other cards their face value.
- A player may also "pass" if they do not wish or cannot play a card.
- If the total reaches 101 exactly, the round immediately ends, and the player who laid the last card wins.
- If all players pass without reaching 101, the round ends and the player who brought the score closest to 101 wins.

- Weighing Risks: Risk assessment often determines success - do I aim for 101, or let others fail trying?
- Remember Cards: Noting which cards have been played can be advantageous.

- Carefully pass if you cannot lay a favorable card, to avoid being the player who exceeds 101.
