Objective of the Game "Oraklos"

The objective of Oraklos is to score the most points by accurately predicting which cards the other players will play and skillfully combining your own cards to maximize your score. Strategy and insight into other players' behaviors are key to winning.

Game Components

  • A special deck of 60 cards
  • A scorekeeping board or notebook to track points

Setup

  1. Each player receives 5 cards at the start of the game.
  2. The remaining cards are placed as a draw pile in the center of the table.
  3. The player who last read a book starts the game.

Game Play

Oraklos is played in a clockwise manner and consists of multiple rounds. In each round, players go through five phases:

Phase 1: Make Predictions

  • At the beginning of each round, players secretly note their predictions. These predictions can be about the color, the value of the cards, or specific combinations the opponents will play.

Phase 2: Play a Card

  • Each player places one card face down from their hand in front of them.
  • Once all players have placed their cards, they reveal them simultaneously.

Phase 3: Scoring

  • Players compare the revealed cards with their predictions.
  • For each correct prediction, a player earns 3 points.
  • For each incorrect prediction, a player loses 1 point.

Phase 4: Draw New Cards

  • Players draw a card from the draw pile to replenish their hand to five cards.
  • If the draw pile is exhausted, the round ends, and a new game begins.

Phase 5: End of the Round

  • If the draw pile doesn't have enough cards to supply all players, the game ends immediately after scoring.

Winning Conditions

  • The game ends when the draw pile has no cards left, and the final round has been completed.
  • The player with the most points is declared the winner.

Strategic Tips

  • Observe Closely: Try to gauge your opponents' playing styles and consider their moves when making your predictions.
  • Vary Your Card Play: Don't always play your highest cards first; plan a few rounds ahead to surprise your opponents.
  • Risk and Reward: Be prepared to take risks with your predictions but balance them to avoid accumulating too many negative points.

The game Oraklos combines tactics, the ability to predict others' moves, and a touch of psychological insight, making it an exciting experience for players of all ages.
