Versus System - Card Game

Strategy, Deck-building Game

group 2 Deutsch

Objective

The objective of VS System is to defeat all opponent character cards and reduce your opponent's life points to zero. Players conduct battles between teams of heroes and villains from comics to gain dominance.

Game Materials

  • Card Deck: Each player has a deck of 60 cards. The deck contains characters, equipment, locations, and plot twists (event cards).
  • Life Point Counter: Each player usually starts with 50 life points.
  • Expansions: VS System has various sets featuring cards from different comic universes, such as Marvel or DC.

Setup

  1. Deck Building: Players construct their decks according to deck-building rules, meaning you cannot have more than four copies of any card in your deck unless otherwise specified.
  2. Starting Setup: Shuffle your deck and draw seven cards at the beginning of the game.

Turn Structure

The game proceeds in rounds consisting of several phases:

1. Recovery Phase

  • Players untap all exhausted cards, regaining control of them.

2. Draw Phase

  • Each player draws a card from their deck.

3. Build Phase

  • The active player plays plot cards or locations, recruits new character cards, and pays for their costs with "resources" by placing cards from their hand as resources.

4. Combat Phase

  • Attack Declaration: The active player declares attacks with their character cards on opponent's character cards. Strategic placing is crucial here – front and back rows affect who can attack whom.
  • Attack Resolution: Both players can play cards to influence the outcome of the battle. At the end of the combat, damage is assigned and character cards might be moved to the discard pile.

5. End Phase

  • The active player ends their turn, reducing their hand size to the allowable amount if necessary.

Winning Conditions

  • A player wins if the opponent's life points come down to zero.

Strategic Considerations

  • Deck Building: Think about what synergies exist between your cards. A well-planned deck build can make a difference, as character abilities often interact with each other.
  • Resource Management: Decide effectively which cards to use as resources, as doing so temporarily weakens your hand but strengthens your future actions.
  • Character Positioning: Make sure to place strong characters in the right row to better control the attacks.
  • Combination Effects: Use plot twists and events to surprise and turn the tide of battles against the opponent.
