Objective of the Game
Parks is a beautifully illustrated board game where players hike through national parks, collect resources, and purchase experience cards to ultimately score the most points. Each player controls two hikers traveling on a variable trail through the parks.
Game Components
The game includes: - A variable track made of trail tiles - Park cards and Gear cards - Experience cards - Sun, Water, Forest, and Mountain resource tokens - Wildlife tokens
How to Play
The game is played over four seasons, each representing a run-through of the trail:
-
Setup: Each player starts with two hikers. The trail is built using trail tiles and resources are placed on them.
-
Turn Order: On their turn, players move one of their hikers forward along the trail. A player can only move a hiker to a tile unless it's occupied, they will then need to use their campfire to move to the same space.
-
Collecting Resources: When a hiker lands on a tile, the player collects the resources or uses the action on the tile.
-
Visit Parks: At the end of the trail, players can spend resources to either visit a park (scoring points) or purchase gear (for advantages in future turns).
Special Rules
- Campfire: Each campfire can be used once per season to move to an occupied tile.
- Experience Cards: These offer one-time bonus actions or abilities.
- Weather Cards: Indicate additional resources placed on trail tiles for the round.
Strategy Tips
- Resource Management: Plan which parks you want to visit and gather the required resources accordingly.
- Timing: Decide strategically when to use the campfire.
- Flexibility: Use experience cards to adapt to changes in the game situation.
At the end of the fourth run-through, scores are tallied, and the player with the most points wins the game. Victory is often achieved by cleverly visiting parks and effectively utilizing gear cards.
