Objective of the Game

Tikal is a strategy game where players take on the role of archaeologists exploring the jungle to excavate temple ruins and collect treasures. The objective is to earn the most points by controlling temples and gathering treasures.

Setup

1. Board Setup: The game board is made up of a layout of hexagonal terrain tiles placed randomly. Initially, only base camps are visible.
2. Temples and Treasures: Each player starts without temples or treasures, which will be discovered during the game.
3. Initial Setup: Each player receives a set number of archaeologist figures and an expedition leader.

Gameplay

The game is played over several rounds, each consisting of the following phases:

1. Tile Reveal: Starting with the starting player, a new terrain tile is drawn and placed on the board. These tiles may uncover temples, treasures, or empty spaces.

3. Each player has 10 action points per turn, which can be used for different actions:

   • Move: Move an archaeologist to an adjacent space (1 point per space).
   • Excavate Temple: Excavate a temple level (2 points per level).
   • Establish Camp: Set up a new base camp (5 points).
   • Collect Treasure: Take treasure from a space (3 points for treasure).
   • Move Expedition Leader: Teleport to any point on board (3 points).

4. Scoring Rounds: After all actions are executed, scoring rounds may occur where players score their positions and collections.

Scoring

• Temples: Points are awarded based on the height of the temples controlled.
• Treasures: Points are given for collected treasures, especially for complete sets.

End of Game

The game concludes after all terrain tiles have been revealed and rounds are completed. The player with the most points wins.

Strategy Tips

• Efficient Resource Management: Plan each action point carefully to maximize your points per turn.
• Temple Control: Only excavate temples as far as necessary to maintain control.
• Treasure Collection: Try to collect treasures in complete sets for optimal bonus points.
