Objective
Monopoly Deal is a card game based on the classic Monopoly board game. The objective is to be the first player to collect three complete property sets. These sets consist of cards with a common color scheme.
Components
The game consists of 110 cards. This includes: - Property Cards: Represent various streets and properties from Monopoly. Properties are color-coded. - Money Cards: Used to pay rent and other obligations. - Action Cards: Allow special actions like stealing properties, charging rent, or drawing extra cards.
Setup
- Shuffle: Mix all the cards thoroughly.
- Deal: Each player receives five cards as their starting hand.
- Draw Pile: The remaining cards become the draw pile, placed face down in the center.
Gameplay
Play proceeds clockwise.
- Draw Phase: At the start of their turn, a player draws two cards from the draw pile.
- Action Phase: A player can perform up to three actions, including:
- Play a card from their hand: Put a money card into their bank or a property card in front of them.
- Use an Action Card: to perform a special task like "Charge Rent" or "Forced Deal."
- End Turn: End the turn by ensuring they do not hold more than seven cards in hand. Excess cards must be placed in their bank.
Key Rules
- Charging Rent: A player can only charge increased rent if they own a complete color set.
- Hand Limit: Players may not end their turn with more than seven cards in hand.
- Personal Bank: Money and action cards played into the bank do not count toward hand size and can be used to pay rent.
Strategy Tips
- Flexibility: Since many action cards are multi-functional, it’s wise to remain flexible and respond tactically to your opponents and hand situation.
- Focus: Try to quickly collect full color sets to charge higher rent from other players.
- Awareness: Keep track of opponents' hand cards and bank to anticipate the most strategic times to charge rent.
