Objective of the Game "Fenster"
The objective of "Fenster" is to be the first player to get rid of all your cards. Players must strategically mirror card sequences in order to discard their cards following specific rules.
Game Materials
- A set of specially designed cards featuring a certain color and number sequence.
- A game board or surface where players can place cards to form "windows."
Setup
-
Each player draws seven cards from a shuffled deck at the start of the game.
-
The remaining deck forms the draw pile, and the top card of this pile is placed face up next to it, creating the discard pile.
Gameplay
- Starting: The player to the left of the dealer begins.
- Turn: Each turn, a player chooses whether to draw a card from the draw pile or take the top card from the discard pile.
Playing Cards
- A player may either place one or more cards in the center of the playing area to form or extend what are called windows.
Window Rules:
- A window can consist of a single card or a sequence of cards showing consecutive numbers of the same color.
- New windows can be created or existing windows extended by placing cards that match the color or logically continue the numbering.
Mirroring
Mirroring: Means players can reverse the order of a window by placing a card at both ends of the same number sequence.
Example: A card with the number 3 at the end of a 1, 2, 3 sequence, transforming it into a 3, 2, 1 sequence.
Ending a Turn
- After placing cards, the player draws a new card from the draw pile to always have seven cards in hand.
- Play continues clockwise.
Winning the Game
- The game ends when a player has successfully played all their cards.
- This player wins the game.
Strategy & Tips
- Prioritize windows: Try to create windows before others do, as it allows you to efficiently reduce your hand early on.
- Use mirroring strategically: Mirroring not only helps you extend windows but also prevents other players from easily playing their cards.
- Plan ahead: Try to anticipate potential moves your opponents might make and hinder their ability to continue their sequences.
By understanding these rules and cleverly applying the mirroring mechanic, each player can strategically maneuver and ultimately win the game!
