Objective

In Toledo, players compete to forge valuable swords and deliver them to the King of Spain. The game combines resource gathering, trading, and strategic movement on the board.

Game Setup

1. Game Board: Place the game board in the center of the table. It represents the city of Toledo with various locations.
2. Tokens: Each player selects a color and receives the corresponding tokens.
3. Starting Cards: Shuffle the action decks and deal one starting card to each player.
4. Resources: Place the metal and gemstone tokens within reach of all players.
5. Sword Cards: Set the sword card piles ready.
6. Starting Player: The youngest player starts (or agree upon a starter).

Gameplay

The game takes place over several rounds, each consisting of multiple phases:

Movement Phase

1. Move: The player moves one token up to 5 spaces across the board. They can pass spaces with other players but cannot stop on an occupied space.
2. Location Action: Depending on the field, players can perform different actions:
3. Blacksmith: Here, players can trade metal for a sword.
4. Jeweler: Trade gemstones for bonus cards.
5. Market: Buy additional metal and gemstone tokens.

Duel Phase (Optional)

• When two players meet on the same field, a duel may occur. Both draw a card. The higher value wins, though certain cards can cause special effects.

Collection Phase

• Players collect gemstones and metals along their route to later forge swords.

Victory Conditions

The game ends when a player has delivered all their swords to the King or when no swords remain in the stockpile. The winner is the one who manages to deliver the most valuable swords.

Strategic Tips

• Resource Management: Plan ahead which resources you need and optimize your movements according to them.
• Dueling: Consider when a duel might be advantageous to hinder opponents or block their path.
• Route Planning: Plan the most efficient paths to visit the necessary craftsmen.
