Objective

Cytosis: A Cell Biology Board Game is an educational game that simulates the processes within a human cell. The objective is to build health resources within a cell by utilizing the cell's mechanisms. The player with the most health points (victory points) at the end of the game wins.

Components

  • Game board depicting a cell
  • Worker tokens in player colors
  • Resource cubes (e.g., proteins, carbohydrates, mRNA, lipids)
  • Cards such as Event Cards, Goal Cards, and Protein Cards
  • Health Points tracker and Victory Point tokens
  • Rulebook

Setup

  1. Place the game board in the center of the table.
  2. Each player chooses a color and takes the corresponding worker tokens.
  3. Shuffle the Event Cards and Goal Cards and place them in their designated spots.
  4. Place the resource cubes within easy reach.

Game Play

The game is played over several rounds, which include the following phases:

  1. Cellular Activation Phase: Each round, players take turns placing one of their workers on the board to perform actions such as gathering resources, creating hormones, or other cellular activities.

  2. Worker Placement: During a turn, each player places one of their workers on an available spot on the board. Each action provides different effects, such as gathering resources or gaining other advantages. Locations like the Golgi Apparatus or Endoplasmic Reticulum provide specific resources or effects.

  3. End of Round: Once all players have placed their workers, the round ends. Draw a new Event Card that will influence the upcoming round.

  4. Health Resources Production: Use the gathered resources to produce health resources. Decide strategically on when and how to utilize them for the most points.

Special Rules

  • Event Cards can significantly impact the game each round. They might introduce new challenges or provide benefits.
  • Every action in the game is thematically linked to a biological process, making it both educational and entertaining.

End of Game and Scoring

The game ends after a preset number of rounds. Count the victory points based on produced health resources and fulfilled goal cards. The player with the most points wins.

Strategic Tips

  • Resource Management: Collect resources efficiently to avoid wasting actions.
  • Goal Cards: Focus on fulfilling goal cards for additional bonuses.
  • Adaptability: Stay flexible in your strategy as event cards can create unpredictable situations.
