Objective of the Game

In Jaipur, you take on the role of one of the two most powerful traders in the city of Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. Your aim is to become the personal trader of the Maharajah by earning more rupees than your opponent by the end of the week (after two out of three possible rounds). You achieve this through clever trading and selling of goods in the market.

Game Setup

  • Each player receives 5 cards as their starting hand.
  • On the table, there are 3 camel cards and 2 random goods cards.
  • The remaining cards form the draw pile.
  • The goods tokens are sorted by value and laid out.

Game Flow

Jaipur is played over multiple rounds, with each round consisting of the following turns:

  1. Take – perform one of the following actions:
  2. Take a single card: Choose one of the 5 available cards from the market.
  3. Exchange multiple cards: Choose two to five cards from the market, and exchange them for the same number of cards from your hand, or against camel cards (camels are kept face-up next to your hand).
  4. Take all camels: Take all camel cards from the center and place them in your caravan.

  5. Sell – sell cards to earn rupees:

  6. Choose a single type of goods from your hand. You earn as many goods tokens as you sell cards.
  7. If you sell 3 or more cards of a type, you earn bonus tokens.
  8. Note: Silver, gold, and diamonds require a minimum of 2 cards to sell.

  9. Market refill:

  10. After taking or selling cards, refill the market row back to five cards by drawing from the draw pile.

End of the Round

A round ends if: - The draw pile is insufficient to refill the market, or - Three stacks of goods tokens are depleted.

Determine the Round Winner: - Count the rupees of the acquired token. - The winner receives a camel bonus token if they have the most camels.

The player who wins two rounds first becomes the Maharajah's personal trader and wins the game.

Strategic Tips

  • Secure valuable silvers, gold, and diamonds early, but make sure to manage your hand cards wisely.
  • Camels are crucial for exchanging large quantities of cards, so keep a reserve.
  • Observing the market is key. With only two players, strategic holding or acquiring of cards can mean the difference between winning and losing.

With this explanation, you should be ready to dive into the trading life of Jaipur. Enjoy and have success with your trading endeavors!
