Objective of the Game
In Elfenland, each player takes on the role of a young elf trying to visit as many towns as possible in the enchanted land of Elfenland. The goal is to travel to more towns than your opponents within a set number of rounds.
Game Components
- 1 game board with a map of Elfenland
- 48 travel cards
- 72 transportation tiles
- 6 elf boots in different colors
- 20 town tiles
- 6 destination cards
- 1 round counter
Setup
- Each player selects an elf boot in their preferred color.
- Each player draws a destination card randomly (keep it hidden).
- Randomly distribute 20 town tiles among the 20 towns on the game board.
- Shuffle the travel card deck and deal 8 cards to each player.
- Shuffle the transportation tiles and place them face down as a supply.
- Set the round counter to round 1.
Gameplay
The game lasts for 4 rounds, with each round consisting of the following phases:
1. Planning
- Each player draws 8 transportation tiles from the supply.
- Starting with the first player, each player takes turns placing a tile on a route between two towns. Pay attention to the type of terrain and place your means of transport accordingly. A transportation means can only be used on certain routes (e.g., bicycles cannot be used on water).
2. Movement
- Players take turns playing their travel cards to move along the planned routes. Each route requires a certain number of cards matching the color of the used transport. Pay attention to the special rules for different transport types:
- Dragon: Requires at least two cards
-
Pig: Cannot travel on water
-
Players can also opt to use a cloud card once to move to any town on the board instantly.
- Players immediately collect town tiles from towns they enter at the start or during their moves.
3. Round End
- All transportation tiles are removed from the board, and players draw new travel cards up to 8 cards.
- Move the round counter to the next round.
Game End
The game ends after the fourth round. Players count the town tiles they collected; the player who has visited the most towns wins.
Strategic Tips
- Route Planning: Think carefully about the routes you mark to make other players' travels less easy.
- Card Management: Strategically save travel cards to have enough for 'expensive' transport means.
- Bluffing and Blocking: Place tiles on routes to make it harder for other players to use their preferred paths.
Elfenland combines strategic planning and elements of luck, making it a suitable game for players who enjoy planning their actions several turns ahead.
