Objective
Parcheesi is a classic board game where the goal is for players to move all four of their playing pieces from their starting area around the board and into their home area. The first player to successfully get all their pieces into the home area wins.
Game Components
- A board with a cross-shaped path with four colored starting areas (home), a central area (goal), and four equally-sized paths arranged in a circle.
- 16 playing pieces, four of each color.
- Two dice.
Setup
- Each player chooses a color and places their four pieces in the corresponding home area.
- Players roll to determine the starting order. The player with the highest roll goes first.
Gameplay
- Starting a piece: To move a piece out of the home area, a player must roll a six.
- Rolling a six allows the player to move a piece to the start square and roll again.
- Movement: The roll indicates the number of spaces a piece can move.
- Players can advance a piece around the board based on the combined total of both dice.
- Capturing pieces: Landing on a space occupied by another piece sends that piece back to its home area.
- Blocking: Two of a player's pieces on the same space create a blockade, preventing any pieces, including those of the same color, from passing.
- Safe spaces: Certain marked spaces on the board are safe zones where a piece cannot be captured.
- Entering home: To move a piece into the home area, the exact number required to enter the space must be rolled.
Strategies
- Securing pieces: Try to move pieces into safe spaces or just behind blockades for protection.
- Aggressive play: Make frequent moves to capture opponent's pieces and gain an advantage.
- Using blockades: Position blockades strategically to control key areas and hinder opponents.
Special Rules
- If a player rolls three consecutive sixes, the last move is void and the turn ends.
Parcheesi involves both luck with dice rolls and strategic decisions to effectively get all pieces to the home while blocking and capturing opponent pieces.
