Objective of the Game:
In 1835, players are entrepreneurs aiming to build the most profitable railway empire in 19th century Germany. The primary goal is to amass the greatest wealth through strategic investments in railway companies and the development of their rail networks.
Game Components:
- A game board with a map of Germany featuring hexagonal spaces
- Stock certificates of various railway companies
- Play money as currency
- Trains of different types
- Markers for rails and stations
- Company charters
- 2 dice
Setup:
- Set up the game board: Place the Germany game board in the center.
- Distribute stocks: Stocks are allocated to each player according to initial conditions.
- Starting capital: Each player receives a fixed amount of play money to make investments.
- Train and city markers available: These are placed next to the game board.
Gameplay:
1835 is turn-based and consists of two main phases: the stock round and the operating round.
Stock Round (SR):
- This phase aims at buying and selling stocks of available railway companies.
- Buying stocks: Players may purchase stocks to increase their holdings in a company.
- Selling stocks: Players may also sell stocks to raise liquid capital for investments.
- Order matters: The player with the highest current capital starts, proceeding clockwise.
Operating Round (OR):
- This phase aims at operating the railway companies.
- Buying trains: Companies can acquire new trains or replace old ones.
- Expanding rails: New routes can be established by purchasing track tiles.
- Setting routes: Players determine the paths their trains will take to generate revenue.
- Distribute earnings: Income from operations is distributed based on stock ownership. Profits can be reinvested or paid out as dividends.
Special Rules:
- Train technology: Over the course of the game, the chance to switch to modern trains requires strategic planning.
- Dividend policy: Deciding on profit payouts influences a company's capital and stock value.
End of the Game:
The game ends when the bank runs out of money or after a set number of operating rounds. The player with the highest total capital (cash + stock value) wins.
Strategic Tips:
- Think long-term: Investments in new tracks and trains pay off over time.
- Balance your portfolio: Maintain a healthy mix of holdings to minimize risk.
- Watch opponents: Keep an eye on co-players' strategies to maintain an edge.
1835 is a challenging strategy game that requires tactical skill and forward-thinking. Enjoy building your railway empire!
