Objective of the Game
The objective of the game Deutschlandreise is to visit all the predetermined cities in Germany as quickly as possible and then return to your starting point.
Preparation
- Each player receives a game piece and places it on their chosen starting field, which can also be determined by chance.
- The city cards are shuffled well and distributed evenly among players. If it doesn't divide evenly, leftover cards are returned to the box.
- Players place their city cards face down in front of them.
Gameplay
- Determine Turn Order: At the beginning, determine the playing order. This can be done by rolling the dice or using other fair methods.
- Executing a Turn: In each turn, a player rolls the die once and moves the corresponding number of spaces in any direction. Players can move along the lines between the cities.
- Visiting Cities: If a player lands on a location they have a card for, they may lay this card down. This location is now considered "visited".
- Strategic Travel: As each player has multiple city visit cards, it's important to plan routes to visit cities efficiently.
- Returning to Start: Once all city cards of a player are laid down, they must quickly return to their starting point to win.
Special Rules
- Shortcuts and Flags: There are shortcuts on the board that can sometimes be used. These are usually marked with flags or special symbols. Note that these often require a specific dice roll or can only be used in one direction.
- Visiting the Same City Multiple Times: You can visit the same city multiple times if it answers your strategy or to adjust your travel direction.
- Passing or landing on the same spot as another player’s piece brings no special advantages or disadvantages.
Game End and Victory
The game ends when the first player has visited all his cities and returns to his starting location. This player is the winner.
Strategic Tip: Try to plan ahead and consider how you can visit cities in a fast and efficient sequence. Sometimes, taking a detour is worthwhile if it allows you to combine multiple goals.
