Objective of the Game
DOG is a board game played in teams. The objective is to get all your team's pawns safely into their home area before the opposing team can do the same.
Components
- Game Board with starting and home zones for each team.
- Playing Cards that determine pawn movement.
- Pawns in various colors. Typically, each team has four pawns.
- The game is generally played by four or six players divided into two or three teams.
Setup
- Form teams, ideally two or three players per team.
- Each team chooses a color and receives pawns of that color.
- Shuffle the cards and deal six cards to each player. The remaining cards form a draw pile.
- Place the pawns on the corresponding starting spaces on the board.
Rules
- Play proceeds clockwise, starting with the player to the left of the dealer.
- Each turn consists of the following steps:
- Play a Card: Each player plays a card from their hand and moves their pawn according to the card’s value.
- Move Pawns: Cards have different values and functions:
- 1 and 13: Bring a pawn from the start area onto the board or move a pawn forward according to the card's number.
- Card "4" movement: Move a pawn four spaces backward.
- "Joker" card: Can be played as any card value.
- Switch card (7): Allows a player to switch a pawn with an opposing pawn on the board.
- Special Spaces: Landing on a space occupied by another player sends the opponent's pawn back to their start area.
- Draw New Cards: After playing a card, players draw one card from the draw pile to maintain a hand of six cards.
Special Strategies and Tactics
- Team players should confer on their moves to take strategic advantage of the gameplay.
- Cards should be played to protect one's own pawns and block opponents' pawns effectively.
Winning
The team that first gets all its pawns to their home area wins the game.
